Windows

First, install the original game from either the GOG.com, Steam, the Microsoft Store or the Bethesda Store or a CD.

If you installed Arx Fatalis from CD, you need to apply the 1.21 patch. If you installed the game from Steam, GOG or the Bethesda launcher, the 1.22 patch is already included when you download the game and you don't need to manually apply it.

Then, use one of the Arx Libertatis installers below:

Linux

ℹ️  Please see Installing the game data under Linux regarding where and how to install the game data.
Alternatively, configure Steam to use Arx Libertatis to play Arx Fatalis.

Feel free to augment and update this table. If your favorite distribution is not listed here, first check the appropriate repositories - maybe someone already created a package for your distribution.

For distributions where no package is available, you can either use the portable binaries or build from source code.

If you create your own packages, please link them here so others can find them.

Portable Binaries

We also provide portable binaries that should run on any non-ancient x86 or amd64 linux distribution. However, using a distribution-specific package, if available, is recommended for better integration with the rest of the system.

macOS

Currently no Mac OS X binary is made available.

However, there is a Homebrew formula for arx-libertatis version 1.1.2. To install Arx Libertatis using Homebrew, run:

brew install arx-libertatis

Alternatively, see Downloading and Compiling under Mac OS X.

A user has also created an unofficial native build for Arx Libertatis that can be used under Mac OS X.

FreeBSD

There is a FreeBSD port available for version 1.1.2: games/arx-libertatis. (CVS) To compile and install it, run:

# cd /usr/ports/games/arx-libertatis/ && make install clean

Alternatively, install the pre-compiled package:

# pkg install arx-libertatis

We also provide our own (experimental) portable FreeBSD binaries:

Pandora

A user has created an unofficial port of Arx Libertatis to the Template:Wp - see the package listing at openpandora.org (demo). Note that this version is currently based on a development snapshot of Arx Libertatis so may contain some regressions that we haven't caught yet.

Also see the operating system-specific instructions for compiling on Windows, Linux / FreeBSD and macOS.

Development Snapshots

Main article: Development snapshots.

The Arx Libertatis repository on GitHub contains the latest development code. Read-only access is available through the following URL:

git://github.com/arx/ArxLibertatis.git

We also provide pre-built Windows, Linux and FreeBSD binaries for regular development snapshots.

Please note that this code should not be considered stable and we take no responsibility for any Gobbler ambush caused by it.
